Here is my girl's temporary quarters - this is the closest one to Patti's design. The chicks love it! When the coop is built these chicks will move out and the bed will be planted with fall crops like garlic, onions and potatoes. The cage will become my portable run so I can let my chickens "free range" where I want them to!

I adapted her design to make these (hopefully) deer deterrent cages for my new raised beds. The sides roll up to let me get in there and work and then roll down to keep the deer out.

I finally got the left bed planted with my tomato seedlings I sprouted in my basement over the winter. The right bed needs a little more soil and then will have my pepper seedlings and several other vegetable seeds.

Thanks Patti for the great inspiration!

They look great. How many chickens will you have in them?

I have nine chickens, 6 of which are bantams. Nice to have them work in the garden for their rations! :)

On the 2nd night out I lost one of my chicks to what I suspect was a raccoon. I re-wired the whole tractor with hardware cloth, which I should have used from the beginning, and hopefully won't have a repeat. :(
