So, I was really scared when I saw these creatures on my tomato plants and I was like....ewww OMG WTH!? Can you tell I've never seen one before? After my heart stoppped racing from running away from my garden in disgust, I snapped some photos and put them on my blog to ask people what they were. Once I found out, it wasn't so hard to understand why I had them and what was going on.

If this doesn't work, you can read about them on my blog:

They can be devastating, for sure. My chickens love them. Hub will sit outside and search for them just to toss them to the chickies. We haven't had them too bad this year. I think I found the leaves with the eggs on them early, so I pulled them and tossed them in the burning barrel. Last year, we had a huge problem with them. I haven't seen any for the last three weeks.

They are ugly and we were startled the first time we saw them, too!

BT is extremely helpful with hornworms. Diatomaceous Earth is also a great way to control them. A local garden guy says, "thumb and forefinger works best"
