Electric bike

Does anyone have experience with the electric bikes? I am considering purchasing one to zip around town in. The prices are not too bad considering you don't have to buy car insurance etc. They can go up to 20 mph and must have pedals (although you don't actually have to pedal on some models) in order to be street legal. Of course, if I actually rode my "you pedal" bike I wouldn't have to buy one.

I am a big believer in electric power. Electric power can be generated cleanly and cheaply (if big business wanted to that is). I don't know much about them though. I feel that efficient transportation is one of the keys to surviving a post peak world.

I take my inspiration from the third world though, I haven't seen the pedal bike take off there yet, where as the gas scooter has, and 100 miles to the gallon is still great.
