Hello everybody!

It's winter time and that means the compost heaps are warming up and creating new soil for our gardens this spring. But that doesn't mean we can't grow food during this time.

I decided to grow mushrooms in my compost heap during the winter. By using a cold variety of oyster mushroom spawn, and utilizing the heat from the compost itself, I'm growing high protein food while simultaneously creating compost! I'll harvest mushrooms during the winter and then, after transferring my compost to the gardens, continuously grow mushrooms under the plastic during early spring.

I've created a short intro video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCG3sDlcYbY

I have also included the video on my website: http://newgoldenage.ca

At this site I am documenting everything that I do to the property.

I hope you enjoy it!
