I know this is to the extreme but I decided to build a mushroom Lab in my garage office area. This will be nothing but a 8x8x8 foot room with all of the necessary equipment to grow mushroom spawn, cultures & anything else that needs to have a sterile environment.

I will post the finished pictures when I'm finished this weekend or the beginning of this week. This is the first time I ever built a structure at all so... wish me luck!

Actually it's how I make a living. Although...this will be the first time I can actually grow mushrooms in my own landscape!

I'm almost finished with the lab and should be moving in my equipment in the next few days. I will post a Video of it toward the end of the week.

I'M PSYCHED!

I have a small video of the lab that can be viewed with Windows media player. When I'm finished I'll post the final video with all my equipment up and running!

So, I'm getting that it takes a lot more than any sort of regular garden to grow mushrooms? ;)
Give us some idea of what it takes. I would love to see the progression through different stages with pictures or something.
Thanks for posting these. Great lab!

Hey mushroom man, Really nice set up! You have obviously been working with mushrooms for quite a while. If you are serious about showing some of your procedures, I would sure like to learn how to propagate shiitake spawn (either sawdust or plug). My wife and I are trying shiitake log culture for the first time this year and are currently purchasing prepared spawn from Paul Stamets' company . However next year as we add more logs it may pay to set up a small lab area here ,and make our own. We are currently only working with 300 logs.

If you own a Pressure Cooker you can create about 1000 plugs with the plugs you are getting from Paul. Let me know and I'll help.

PS...It would be great if there was a forum dedicated to mushroom growing here at GardenGirlTV.com :)

I do own several pressure cookers since we can heavily throughout the year. I would really like to know how to transfer the mycellium in a simple but sterile home procedure. I also would like to know which media is easier to propagate in a home non laboratory environment (plugs or sawdust)

Sorry about the wait Kevin.
There is a very good DVD that teaches you everything about growing mushrooms on a small scale. If you want you can send me a personal email and I will tell you where to get it. I don't want this post to appear as 'spaming'.
