I am currently challenging myself by planting a veggie garden in my front yard. I have tomatoes, heirloom bell peppers, basil, yellow onion, carrots, crooked neck squash and straight neck squash, cilantro, strawberries, purple garlic, and bush northern green beans. And now I want to know how can I tell when it is time to harvest my onions and garlic?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome!

You'll know when the chive ends droop over and begin to wilt, which will be after they blossom and bear seeds for next year (save or allow to self-sow). Then it's time to harvest your onions/garlic. Good luck in all your gardening adventures! Sounds like your off to a great start!

Hi Ursula!

I'm 45 minutes NE of you! Two words.......drip irrigation. Our weather and droughts just call for it. Have you checked out North Haven garden nursery yet? They have 12 varieties of everything! I purchased Pattie's dvd's there!
