I'm a huge fan of what you're doing, Patti!

Six years ago I rescued a 100-year old house from demolition and moved it to half of a city lot, and began the long, slow process of restoring it. The lot was pretty much cleared to make way for the house; I've slowly been planting it as time and money allowed. Last week, 7 new fruit trees went in and I've been reading everything I can get my hands on about permaculture. Looking forward to hearing what other cold-climate gardeners have gotten to work as I spend the winter deciding what other plants will get space in my small yard.

Greetings from Northfield, MN!

Wow, you moved a house? Now that is impressive. My house is almost two hundred years old, so I know what living with an old house is like. My first attempt at a permaculture lifestyle(at my old house) started with planting a mini orchard as well. In a few years you will have so much fruit you will be shocked I promise.

You should check out Eliot Colemans Four Season Gardening book. I found it very inspiring as well. It listed on my library page.

Welcome and keep us informed.
