Citrus Crisis

I'm not sure how many of you have been following this, but its starting to spread and become fairly serious. Several areas have been quarantined so far.

I live in central florida and have yet to see a case of greening here. But the one thing we have experienced is that most of our small mom and pop citrus nursery propagators/ grafting operations,are going out of business. The florida dept. of agriculture has issued a set of unbelievably strict grower regulations , in response to this recent outbreak. It really is becoming difficult to obtain quality citrus trees at an affordable price. Myself and a number of my freinds have recently begun to grow our own rootstocks and learn how to graft.

This is such a shame...just what we don't need is the smaller operations going out of business. Kim

Well Kim , I couldn't agree with you more. Being a small business owner myself it really irks me, at how much damage over regulation can do. Don't misunderstand me ,the government does need to step in at certain times. But lately ,It seems That every regulation coming out of this great beaurocracy of ours is pointing the cannon right at the little guy.

Just a follow up on this. It has spread into South Carolina and Georgia. A couple of counties in S.C. are under quarantine, but the entire state of Georgia is now under quarantine.
