Today, we leveled the yard where 4 new 4X8 ft raised beds will go. Hauled all the lumber in, and worked until we dropped. Exhausted, but happy, now.

I think that "productive worn-out tired" feeling is a great side benefit of gardening! For so many of us our daily lives are spent producing things that are not very physical or tangible to see. Seeing a physical product for our work effort is very satisfying - and being physically tired at the end of day feels pretty dang good too.

Worked hard in the garden yesterday, too. Leveling, and laying landscape fabric (weed block fabric) down. So sore last night, couldn't sleep! Discovered a bruise on the palm of my hand and said, aloud, "how'd I bruise my hand?!" OH, YEAH.

Way to go Monica! I know exactly the feeling you are talking about LOL But it's a great feeling. It's also a sense of accomplishment -- you can actually SEE the fruits of your labor.

(I just realized that I'm wearing the same shirt as last Monday. Don't worry, I did my laundry in between. LOL)

Great work! Everything lloks amazing. Sorry you gave up your patio for them though. What did you do for drainage? Maybe I missed it.

Bravo!

Patio is still there - tiny slab just outside the door. The compost bin marks the end/edge of it.

Drainage will be pea gravel - eventually. No, SOON!!! The boxes are bottomless and sitting on weed block fabric. Sod is stripped underneath. Just dirt/soil. Our awful, Oklahoma clay soil.

Congrats on all your hard work! I want to build a raised bed, too. Any tips on where to get the lumber??? Thanks!

we just picked ours up at the Home Depot. Maybe that's not the most politically correct place to shop. But we are a little ignorant here. I don't know any "local, sustainable," etc, place to get lumber. I guess we'll learn.
