Dear Patricia,

I hope all of you out there have been enjoying setting up your gardens this spring, I know I have. This year I am "Gardening by Cuisine" and the twelve raised beds in my main garden are thriving. Each bed is a different type of cuisine, for example, my first bed is my American Salad garden and then I move into Italian, French, and Asian Cuisine. I figure, why grow what I can buy at the supermarket; my garden should be a designed around the best food from around the planet.

"A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in." --Greek proverb

"The man who has planted a garden feels that he has done something for the good of the world." -- Vita Sackville-West

Growing Herbs

To me herbs are a must have in the garden. Many herbs are both perennial and four season. Herbs have so many uses, I can't help but grow as many as I can every year. This year I am growing blue hyssop, summer sage and of course mint. I had another mint disaster and managed to kill my chocolate mint....again, but my garden mint is kicking like a weed as usual. Iced tea, mint lemonade and Mojitos! Of course mint is fantastic in a salad.

I love all mints, peppermint, but no chocolate mint. It is killing me, but the key to a green thumb is trying over and over again. I love rubbing mint on meats when roasting. Almost fifteen years ago I did a shoot in Morocco, and when staying with a Bedouin family in the Atlas mountains (this story sounds like that guy from Seinfeld) they cooked us a roasted goat which they had rubbed with mint and that was when I got hooked on it and use it in many dishes I cook. I will share some recipes with you on this as I get farther along in shooting Season 2. Mint does spread very quickly so plant it in a container or a place where you don't mind a wild field of mint.

I use galvanized metal bins I bought from IKEA, and poked wholes in the bottom for drainage, a little organic potting soil and there you have it fresh mint for your culinary delight.

Highlights from Around the Web Lots to see

Check out the Indoor Gardener, I have been reading her blog lately. I have been following her with baited breath.

Check out the Outer Banks Mom! She is a woman after my own heart. I love her blog it inspires me daily! I love the names of her birds, very funny.

Check out this new site I found. It's new, but has interesting content and I like the name of it too. Myearthgarden.com

Judy at Square Foot Garden made my pesto recipe! How cool is that! Check her out. I am so happy she liked it. Pesto is such a great thing to make and can. I am down to my last bit of pesto from last year, and I just love it on toast. I am big into Ezekiel 4:9 bread right now. It is made with the ingredients from the bible (Esekial 4:9) you should all check it out. Really healthy.

Shed For Sale
Making room for an outdoor kitchen

I have put up one of the sheds I have to make room for my outdoor kitchen. It's in great condition and I'm looking for $1500 or best offer. This is already 50% off list. I got it at my favorite shed place, Jamaica Cottage Shop. It's the 6x14 Weekender. It has a brown/gray metal roof and is made out of pine wood. If you're interested come to the open house. It's best to see it in person and I can answer any questions you have. It's fully assembled, cleaned out and ready to go. Here's the link to the shed I have for sale at Jamaica Cottage Shop.
